‘Malicious’ threat targets Pulaski Electric System in ‘cyber attack,’ interrupting customer services
1+ min ago (289+ words) NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Weeks of interruptions to Pulaski Electric System (PES) services for customers have been caused by a cyber attack, the utility provider revealed this week. "PES has learned that it was the victim of a cybersecurity attack by a malicious threat actor," a statement from the provider said in part. Despite the interruptions, PES said as of Monday that "remediation efforts have found no sensitive customer information has been impacted." The company first noticed "suspicious activity on its network" on December 4, leading personnel to disconnect "all of its systems and machines" in order to be cautious. Next, leaders began working with IT teams and a "specialized cybersecurity team and various third party vendors" to bring the system back online. During those efforts, the Pulaski organization discovered the attack and notified the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Customers…...
Meta's Glasses Can Focus in on Your Conversations With a New Update
1+ min ago (177+ words) Conversation Focus filters out party noise and assists hearing who's talking: it's part of a Meta smart glasses update that's rolling out now. Meta's smart glasses are ready to focus in on conversations now. Sorry, can you say that again? Meta's smart glasses are introducing a new hearing assist function called Conversation Focus that, in noisy places, could make it easier to hear whoever's talking to you. It's part of a year-end update to Meta's smart glasses lineup that was just announced today. Conversation Focus was promised in September at Meta's glasses-focused developer conference. And I heard it demoed then, too. The feature works using the glasses' beam-forming microphones to directionally focus on whoever's in front of you, and then filter out other noise." The idea is similar in theory to what an FDA-approved pair of hearing assistance glasses made…...
2+ min ago (488+ words) Welcome to Part 3 of our Modern Scrapy series. That refactor was a huge improvement, but it was still a lot of manual work. We had to: What if you could do all of that in about 30 seconds? In this guide, we'll show you how to use the Web Scraping Co-pilot (our VS Code extension) to automatically write 100% of your Items, Page Objects, and even your unit tests. We'll take our simple spider from Part 1 and upgrade it to the professional scrapy-poet architecture from Part 2, but this time, the AI will do all the heavy lifting. This tutorial assumes you have: Inside VS Code, go to the "Extensions" tab and search for Web Scraping Co-pilot (published by Zyte). Once installed, you'll see a new icon in your sidebar. Open it, and it will automatically detect your Scrapy project. It may ask…...
4+ min ago (575+ words) The Elder Scrolls 6 is still "a long ways off," but Bethesda says development is going well. Fans of Bethesda's (and now, Xbox's) massively popular fantasy open-world RPG franchise The Elder Scrolls have been starved of a new entry to play, with the latest being a little 2011 game called Skyrim that you might have heard about. And while Oblivion Remastered was certainly a nice appetizer, but the main course everyone's hungry for is The Elder Scrolls 6. It's been in the oven for a long time; it was announced over seven years ago during E3 2018 with a short teaser trailer, and we've heard very little about it since then, as much of Bethesda's development efforts were focused on Starfield for many years. Now, though, we actually have a new update from game director and executive producer Todd Howard, as well as a few…...
Ikea made a donut Qi2 wireless charger for $10, and I'm already sold
5+ min ago (709+ words) The best Pixelsnap accessory might be this donut-shaped wireless charger from an unlikely brand. Android fans are finally enjoying the convenience of magnetic wireless charging. Google officially added Qi2 support with built-in magnets to the Pixel 10 series via Pixelsnap, and Samsung is rumored to do the same on the Galaxy S26 series. When it's time to upgrade your phone, it'll also be a good idea to upgrade your wireless charger. There are a few first-party options from Google, but for the most part, Android users are looking to third-party accessory makers to fill the gap. The Modern Scrapy Developer's Guide (Part 2): Page Objects with scrapy-poet
8+ min ago (720+ words) Welcome to Part 2 of our Modern Scrapy series. In Part 1, we built a working spider that crawls and scrapes an entire category. But if you look at our code, it's already getting messy. Our parse_listpage and parse_book functions are mixing two different jobs: What happens when a selector changes? Or when you want to test your parsing logic? You have to run the whole spider. This is slow, hard to maintain, and difficult to test. In this guide, we'll fix this by refactoring our spider to a professional, modern standard using Scrapy Items and Page Objects (via scrapy-poet). We will completely separate our crawling logic from our parsing logic. This will make our code cleaner, infinitely easier to test, and scalable. We will refactor our spider from Part 1. The spider itself will only handle crawling (following links). All the parsing logic will…...
DoorDash rolls out Zesty, an AI social app for discovering new restaurants
9+ min ago (283+ words) DoorDash is launching a new AI-powered social app that's designed to help users quickly find local restaurants. The app, called Zesty, is initially available in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York. With the app, DoorDash is branching out beyond food delivery and stepping into the social and discovery space. The idea behind the app is to get rid of the need to read a bunch of different reviews, look up different menus, or browse TikTok when looking for a new place to eat. DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang wrote in an X post that the app aggregates info across DoorDash, Google Maps, TikTok, and more to "curate the best suggestions from the web." The app also learns your tastes to figure out what you do and don't like. Once you come across a recommendation you're interested in, you can…...

11+ min ago (776+ words) Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope report that a powerful gamma-ray burst detected in March may have been produced by the explosion of a massive star just 730 million years after the Big Bang. Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) may have discovered the most distant supernova in the universe. This stellar explosion, hosted by a very faint galaxy, occurred when the universe was only 730 million years old. Besides adding a new potential record to JWST's already-impressive list, this detection provides insight into the origin of a superbright gamma-ray burst observed in March. These sudden, short-lived outbursts of gamma-rays are among the most powerful explosions in the universe. Dubbed GRB 250314A, the burst of energy was discovered by the Space Variable Objects Monitor, a small X-ray telescope developed by China and France. Within a couple of days of the…...
